Into clubbing? Then you may know what a mash-up is.
Prefer the couch and remote? We'll help you out: A mash-up (also called Frankenpop) is a song created by mixing two genres -- say, a hip-hop tune and a classic rock ballad (Eminem meets David Bowie -- got it?).
And it looks like one of the hottest music trends is moving over to the bar scene. Earlier this month, DJ Lawrence Muggerud, host of the Sirius radio show Muggs' Mash-Up Mondays, joined reps from Sauza Tequila at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood to unveil a set of hybrid cocktails.
Some, thankfully, won't see the dark of night again. (Whoever thought of merging a Dirty Martini with a Tequila Sunrise should be put permanently on the wagon.) But one fab mash-up -- Cosmopolitan plus Margarita equals Cosmorita -- made the Cafe menu's cut. Order one for $7.49 or make it at home:
THE COSMORITA
Combine 1 ½ ounces Sauza Hornitos tequila, 1 ounce cranberry juice, ½ ounce DeKuyper triple sec and ¼ ounce fresh lime juice in a shaker with ice.
Shake and strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with lime.
Tasting notes: Sweet but not cloying and strong as a welterweight, this tangy crossbreed is anything but a freak of nature. You won't miss the vodka for a second.
Details: The Hard Rock Cafe is inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood; 954-327-7625.
