The California Air Resources Board wanted to show off the new technology and advancements in batteries and fuel cells.
There are half a million environmentally friendly cars already on the road.
Jerry Martin with the Resource Board said many more will be produced each year for the next decade.
"We're looking at quite a few vehicles that will have an immediate impact on the state and nation's air pollution problem," Martin said.
The Air Resources Board said by 2016, vehicles will be 30 percent cleaner than cars today.
The symposiun runs through Wednesday.
