(KUTV) UTAH COUNTY One person was killed trying to save a three year old girl that had fallen near Timpanogos Cave in Utah County. It was supposed to be a weekend outing with family and friends, but ended in tragedy.

A group of family and friends were hiking the trail to Timpanogos Cave up American Fork Canyon when the 3-year-old wandered off the trail and fell 75 feet. A member of the group tried to climb to the girl, but the man fell 200 feet in the attempt.

Search and rescue crews were called to the scene. Lifeflight was also called in to help pull the girl from the mountain with their hoist.

The girl was airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital, where she's expected to make a full recovery.

Officials said the man was visiting from Russia.
