More Than Just Good Friends :: 3
.... nothin' to say. - Nicole XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX Allison woke up and quickly gathered her things from the bathroom and slipped her high heels back on, looking somewhat strange in comparison to the sweat pants and t-shirt that she was still wearing. She had been thinking about last night a lot... She didn't know why things between her and Michael would need to be awkward now, neither of them had actually meant for anything like that to happen, or not, happen; but she couldn't deny the fact that she wished that something more, would have happened. She shook her head slightly, trying to tell herself that she didn't think about Michael in that way. Allison slipped the small strap over her heel and walked into the upstairs hallway... just as Michael walked out of his bedroom. Michael could feel his cheeks warm slightly. He shouldn't be embarrassed, he thought. I mean, it was an accident right? And besides, nothing actually happened. "Morning." He said softly. Allison's eyes met his with her own look of embarrassment. "Good morning." She said with a smile. She turned and walked down the stairs, not wanting anything to get awkward with Michael. Michael trailed behind her; he watched intently as she walked down the stairs in front of him... watching the way she moved, how her hips involuntarily swayed when she walked. He suddenly seemed to realize what he was doing and looked down; telling himself repeatedly that Allison was a friend... nothing more. "Well hey Ally! I didn't know you were here." Michael's mother, Katherine, pulled Allison in for a tight hug. "Sorry Katherine, I would have asked but I didn't want to wake you." Katherine waved off her comment with a smile; "You know you're always welcome here Ally." Allison felt a huge smile spread across her face as she hugged Katherine once again. "Thank you." Katherine had always been so nice to Allison... treating her like she was a Jackson herself. Always making sure that she had a place to be when her parents were out of town, and making herself available for Allison to talk to whenever she felt as if she couldn't tell her own parents something. "Well you two are probably hungry." Allison turned to look at Michael, who was standing quite a few feet away from her, something that wasn't the usual for him. "I'm going to call my dad and see when he lands... I'll be right back." Allison said with a smile. Katherine nodded; "Alright sweetie." Allison disappeared down one of the hallways and Michael turned to Katherine. "She's such a sweet girl." Katherine said fondly. Michael smiled and nodded, not sure of what to say. "That's the type of person that men should want to marry." Michael chewed on his lip, not wanting his thoughts to slip through. He wasn't going to tell his mother that he actually really liked Allison... in more ways than one. "I can tell you like her Michael." Katherine finally said. She hadn't wanted to say it directly, hoping that he would say something first... She knew her son and she could tell by the way that he looked at her that he felt more than what he led everyone to believe. Michael stammered for a moment, trying to think of an appropriate response. "Of course I like her mother, she's my best friend." He said nervously. Katherine shook her head; "You know what I mean Michael." Allison returned with a smile, making Michael sigh in relief that he didn't have to continue this conversation. "Well, my dad won't be home for another hour, so yeah, breakfast sounds good." Katherine gave Michael a knowing look as he smiled at Allison. "Well good, always happy to have you." Once they were seated around the table, Katherine coughed, breaking the long moment of silence as everyone was poking at their food. "So, where's your dad Ally?" Katherine asked with a smile. Allison coughed; "On business in Chicago." Katherine nodded and resumed eating, accepting the fact that the conversation was lacking this morning. Allison sat there, for the first time ever, feeling awkward in the Jackson home. She began moving her foot against the wooden table leg, a habit that she had had since youth. Michael's head snapped up and looked at Allison questioningly. She gave him a puzzled look for a moment before clearing her throat; "Is there a problem?" Michael subtly pointed to under the table. Allison slowly ducked her head down, trying to see what he was talking about. She glanced under the table to see her foot resting on Michael's shin, what she had thought was the table leg... well this wasn't helping the awkward situation. She began laughing, thinking about what must be going through Michael's head right now. "I'm sorry." She said still chuckling. Michael just raised an eyebrow; he was totally unaware of what was going on. "Thought your leg was the table's." She said nonchalantly, trying to keep things from becoming even more awkward then they already were. Allison wasn't sure why they were letting what happened last night get to them. Accidents happen. "What are you two talking about?" Allison and Michael both jumped, they hadn't heard LaToya enter the kitchen and were surprised to hear her talking from behind the opened refrigerator door. Michael seemed to brush her off, ignoring her question. He honestly didn't feel like talking to LaToya right now. "Michael, what are you doing today?" Allison began to shrug off last nights â??accident' and try to bring back the at-ease feeling that she usually had around Michael. "New year's party." Shit, Allison had completely forgotten about today being New Year's Eve. She smiled; "Where at?" He gave her a returning smile. "Diana's." Allison pushed her food around with her fork and put on a look of fake shyness. "Do you have... a... you know, a date for this thing?" Michael rolled his eyes; "You know you're invited to everything I do, I don't know why you still ask." A wide smile spread across her face; "I know I am. I'm just trying to be polite." Michael scoffed jokingly. "Since when are you polite?" She kicked his leg under the table, making him jump; "Ouch." She smiled; "If you don't want me to be polite... I won't be." "Oh! And speaking of being polite, could you get someone to drop me off at my place?" As soon as she said it the kitchen phone began ringing and Katherine got up to answer it. "It's your dad Allison." Katherine said from the other side of the room. Allison quickly stood and took the phone from Katherine. "Hello?" "Yeah sweetie... I'll be later than I thought. There's a layover." Allison felt like groaning, she wanted to go home and get ready. "How much later?" There was a pause. "I won't be home till eleven at the earliest." She felt relieved. "That's in two hours dad." He cleared his throat. "I mean eleven pm." Allison sighed, knowing that her dad didn't want to be stuck there anymore than she wanted him to be. "Okay, I'll see you tonight then." "Love you Ally." "Love you too dad, bye." "Bye." She hung the phone back on the receiver and plopped back down into her chair with a noisy sigh. "What'd he say?" Michael asked curiously. "There's a layover, he won't be home until eleven tonight. I guess that means I can't really get dressed, you know, not having access to any of my clothes and all." Michael looked thoughtful for a moment, using his signature thinking face. "Looks like we're going shopping." He said with a grin. > Allison held onto Michael tightly as they ran into the store; somehow Michael's fans never failed to find out where he was, no matter how discreet they were about it. Michael's bodyguard pulled the door open as they quickly entered the dress shop. "You think that after all these years of being your best friend, and an actress myself, that I'd be used to that." Allison said more to herself than to Michael. Sometimes Michael felt bad; he felt like it was more of a burden on someone to be his friend than anything else. "I know what you're thinking. Stop it." Allison said, pointing an accusing finger at him. He looked at her; "Then what was I thinking about?" "You were doing that whole self-loathing thing again. I can tell." Sometimes Michael wasn't sure who knew him better, Allison, or himself. When he didn't say anything Allison smiled; "See, I know you like the back of my hand." Michael shook his head and rolled his eyes; "Whatever." Allison began thumbing through some dress racks, carefully looking at each of them before hanging them back up after seeing the outrageous price tag. "I'm not paying this for a dress." She said while looking at a particularly expensive one. "It's fabric, not gold." She muttered under her breath. Michael just laughed; he would have offered to buy her one of them, but knew her all too well to do so; there was no way that she would let him pay for her dress. "What do you think about this one?" Michael held a shorter, gold colored dress up. Allison looked at it for a moment; "I love it... but, how much is it?" Michael chuckled; "Cheaper than most, and I'll pay half." "Michael I can't let you..." "Hush, I'm paying half." He said, effectively cutting her off. The both paid for half of the dress before making a mad dash back out to the limo. Once they finally had the limo doors shut Allison sighed and looked out the window to see people holding Thriller records and various posters in hopes of getting them signed, some people were just screaming Michael's name over and over again, and then there were the people who were just bouncing up and down and crying. "Your fans are crazy." Michael laughed; "Not crazy, dedicated." "Whatever you say..." > Once they were back to Michael's house Allison took her things upstairs and met Michael in his room. "Hey Ally, Um... Diana asked me to be her â??date' at this party, and since it's her house and all... I said yes." Michael said shyly. Allison's smiled faded a bit; "That's alright." "I mean, you can invite someone else if you want." Michael said softly. She shrugged; I wouldn't mind having Steve there. She thought. "I think I will." Michael hadn't actually expected her to take him up on his offer and was a little surprised that she had; I mean, he wasn't going to tell her that she couldn't... she could do whatever she wanted to, but with both of them having different dates... and, with what happened the night before, he expected this party to be somewhat... interesting
