Michael Jackson documentary
On December 1, BBC Radio 2 will be broadcasting Thriller – Michael Jackson’s Masterpiece. The hour-long documentary tells the story of the most successful long player of all time. The show features all the songs from the album with contributions from producer Quincy Jones, songwriter Rod Temperton, engineer Bruce Swedien, former CBS President Walter Yetnikoff, founder of MTV Bob Pittman, Paul McCartney, players Steve Lukather and Greg Phillinganes, dancer Jeffrey Daniel and Motown President Berry Gordy. We hear the story of how the LP nearly never got off the ground, how – when it finally did – it was a disaster and rapidly remixed, how the music critics reacted, how MTV came to Jackson’s rescue and how he returned the favour by making MTV the international station it is today. And, we he hear about the songs which catapulted Jackson into the status of global superstar. Here is, at last, a Jackson documentary about the music, the phenomenon which became Thriller. The documentary - produced by Neil Cowling and Jed Pitman – airs on BBC Radio 2 on December 1 at 8pm. It will also be available online on BBC 2’s website.
